Fuller House Volunteers

Wow!  What a morning we had in the parking lot of Allison Transmission on Saturday, May 11. A large group of volunteers from Allison Transmission, St. Christopher Church, American Structurepoint, Westport Homes, Davis Building Group, and a group of linemen from the Speedway High School football team gathered to build two sets of home panels in preparation for the Fuller Center for Housing’s “Speedway Build,” which will take place June 3 – 14. One home will be a ranch-style home to be built on West 10th Street for a mom with two children; the other will be a 2-story home for a family with eight children to be built on St. Paul Street in the Fountain Square area of Indianapolis, Indiana.

American Structurepoint’s group of eight volunteers came prepared with hammers and work gloves. Participants included Michele Collins (Administration), Tracey Parfitt (Architecture), Parfitt’s husband, Jason Brennon, Chris Meador (Environmental), Ali Krupski (Transportation), Derrek Day (Transportation), Mike Koyak (Transportation), and Sharon Payne (Accounting). The coordination, team work, camaraderie, and community spirit were evident as everyone got to work nailing. Some of our group members were experienced, and others learned that day, but there were no injuries on the job. The group completed the task early by 10 a.m.

“This was team work at its best in the planning, staging, and completing of the task in just one hour and 40 minutes,” said Ron Fisher of the Speedway Redevelopment Commission.

The next Fuller House volunteer opportunity will take place on Monday, June 10.
