Four Projects Earn First-Place Awards From ACI Indiana

Four American Structurepoint projects earned the top prize in various categories in the Indiana Chapter of the American Concrete Institute’s Annual Awards Competition. Read on for the details.

Hammond Sportsplex – First Place, Institutional Category

The 135,000-sft Hammond Sportsplex & Community Center provides multiple avenues for physical activity and wellness for Hammond residents. It also is a regional and national youth sports hub destination for tournaments, providing a catalyst for tourism and economic development activity in Hammond. American Structurepoint provided architecture, interior design, structural engineering, and civil engineering services for the project.

dormakaba Manufacturing – First Place, Commercial 1 (Industrial, Manufacturing)

Our firm provided structural engineering, civil engineering, architectural, land surveying, and environmental services for a major expansion of dormakaba’s manufacturing and warehouse facilities in Indianapolis. The 200,000-sft expansion allowed dormakaba to grow its production of secure locks and access solutions for multiple market sectors.

IU Bloomington Hospital and Clinic – First Place, Healthcare

American Structurepoint provided structural engineering services for the new 620,000-sft IU Health Bloomington hospital, located on the Indiana University Regional Academic Health Center campus. This new facility, scheduled to open in fall, will replace the existing IU Health Hospital in Bloomington.

Commerce Center Mixed-Used Development – First Place, Multi-Family Structure

The Commerce Center, located in downtown South Bend, is a 10-story building with 20,000 sft of retail space, office space, a 625-space parking garage, and a residential tower for 144 apartment units. We provided structural engineering services for this project.

Comments Off on Cash Canfield To Lead ACEC Indiana

Cash Canfield To Lead ACEC Indiana

Congratulations to our very own Cash Canfield (Indianapolis Design Center) as he begins his term as ACEC Indiana’s 2021-2022 president. In a column appearing in this month’s ACEC Indiana newsletter, Cash outlined four industry issues ACEC Indiana is actively addressing during the next year.

  1. Workforce development – Fewer students entering the engineering and construction fields coupled with baby boomers retiring in increasing numbers are creating staffing challenges for many firms. ACEC Indiana is looking at developing more programs to address the shortage of professionals in market sectors.
  2. Structural safety – This is a hot issue under more scrutiny in light of the Florida condominium collapse. ACEC Indiana continues to work with the state’s Fire Prevention & Building Safety Commission to undertake regular, incremental build code updates to ensure building safety.
  3. Cyber threats – ACEC Indiana’s IT forum offers member firms opportunities to learn more about how to protect against hacks and ransomware attacks.
  4. Changing work environments – ACEC Indiana is involved in helping member firms navigate the issues around adapting to the “new normal” workplace from improving inclusiveness to hybrid office settings combining remote work and work-from-home schedules with the traditional office setting.

“I am looking forward to leading ACEC Indiana during this exciting and critical time for our organization as we contemplate growth and continued stability,” Cash said. “In particular, I am excited to lead the organization in updating our strategic plan. ACEC Indiana is constantly looking for ways to provide additional value to our membership.”

Gary Sanitary District Groundbreaking Ceremony

In July, we celebrated the beginning of the Gary Sanitary District 13th Avenue Sewer Improvement Project with a groundbreaking ceremony alongside Gary Mayor Jerome Prince, US Congressman Frank Mrvan, and the US Army Corps of Engineers. The project, designed by American Structurepoint, will replace nearly 1,900 linear feet of existing 42-inch and 48-inch poured-in-place concrete sanitary sewer with new reinforced concrete pipe. Construction for the improvement project began in May and is set to wrap up in August. The project received $2.3 million in federal funding, while the city’s sanitary district paid $756,103 for the project, or a 25% cash match.  The project will improve quality of life and public health and encourage economic development and job creation. This project is expected to accommodate the needs of the City for the next 50 years. Learn more here: https://bit.ly/3hNTIBu

Ribbon Cutting Celebrates Parkview Apartments Completion

A ribbon-cutting ceremony marked completion of the Parkview Apartments project in Huber Heights, a Dayton-area suburb. American Structurepoint provided land surveying, civil engineering, and construction staking services for the development consisting of 50 multi-family residential buildings designed in the “modern farmhouse” architectural style. The units are built into the rolling hills of a 16-acre property overlooking Carriage Hill Metro Park. Parkview features luxury apartments, townhouses, and carriage homes and includes amenities such as clubhouse, resort-style swimming pool, fitness center, and community garden. We are proud to help our client, Metropolitan Holdings, bring this exciting project to life.

American Structurepoint Makes 2021 Best Employers in Ohio List

Our Columbus design center earned a spot on the 2021 Best Employers in Ohio List created by Crain’s Cleveland Business and the Best Companies Group. The list contained 20 companies.  The publication listed several reasons for our inclusion on the list, such as our bonus vacation program providing an extra week of pay or a week of time off for staff after two full years of employment and our over $500,000 investment in IT infrastructure to ensure a seamless transition to remote capabilities during Covid-19. The source also highlighted our internal diversity and inclusion committee, PointUP, that provides support and networking tools to build a more diverse and inclusive workplace.

Intern Day 2021

American Structurepoint hosted our annual Intern Day on July 21. Our interns began their day with breakfast at our Indy Design Center where they warmed up with an icebreaker and introduced themselves to one another. After breakfast, they regrouped at St. Mary’s Child Center in Indianapolis where they participated in community service tasks including painting a classroom, cleaning and wiping down classroom furniture, spreading mulch in the front playground, moving furniture into correct classrooms, and reorganizing some of the classrooms for the faculty. After the community service portion, they attended a panel luncheon at TopGolf in Fishers. The speakers were Megan Wiles (president of the Noblesville Common Council and executive director – Riverview Health Foundation), Chuck Fewel (Greenfield mayor), John Nail (city engineer, City of Westfield), Jennifer Beck (senior project manager at INDOT’s Greenfield District) and our very own Rick Conner. The panelists shared with the interns what they do and how they are involved in the different sectors of business with their jobs. The interns were also able to spend most of the time asking the panelists questions reflecting on their own careers and for future career advice. After lunch, the interns were assigned to different bays to relax, play golf, reflect on their day, mingle with their fellow interns, and network with some American Structurepoint employees as well. Thank you to everyone who participated in and contributed to Intern Day 2021; it was a huge success, and we already are looking forward to next year’s Intern Day!
