Many Interns Arriving This Month

Get ready – our interns are arriving in full force this month. To date, we have 27 interns joining us throughout the company, a few of which are already here; however, most interns will be arriving during May. As other conversations are occurring with students, it’s possible this number may grow. Here’s the breakdown of where our interns will be working.

  • Architecture + Interiors – 1
  • Civil/Site – 4
  • Construction Solutions – 11
  • Land Surveying – 3
  • Marketing Services – 1
  • Road Group – 4
  • Structural Engineering – 1
  • Traffic Engineering – 1
  • Utility Infrastructure – 1

Senior Talent Acquisition Specialist Meagan Perratore reports that while we will employ the usual number of interns in 2021, the entire recruitment process for most of our first-time interns from the career fair to the interview occurred virtually. Meagan also confirms that Intern Day is back on for 2021 for July; it was greatly missed last year because of COVID-19 protocols. If COVID progress takes a wrong turn, HR will reconsider holding the event. Please make our interns feel welcome when you meet them!

Greg Henneke Achieves ASCE Fellow Status

With great pride, we are happy to share that American Structurepoint Senior Executive Vice President Greg Henneke has achieved Fellow status from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). ASCE grants Fellow status to members who have made celebrated contributions to the industry and developed creative solutions that have enhanced lives. This is a rare honor – just 3 percent of ASCE members receive this prestigious distinction.

The growth of American Structurepoint’s Transportation Group during Greg’s tenure leading that group stands as a celebrated contribution to the industry. So does his outstanding leadership in the public sector while working at the Indiana Department of Transportation and the City of Indianapolis. Greg served INDOT in various capacities for 17 years and worked for the Indiana Department of Public Works for five years before joining American Structurepoint in 1997. Greg has led many high-profile projects at American Structurepoint and has mentored countless individuals at our company and in our industry. Achieving Fellow status is a well-deserved honor for Greg and American Structurepoint. Please join us in congratulating Greg on this great achievement.

New Loeb Stadium Opens in Lafayette

The sounds of “play ball,” cracking bats, and fans cheering in the stands have returned to Loeb Stadium in Lafayette. Dedication ceremonies and the first baseball game occurred March 31 at the new, American Structurepoint-designed stadium that carries the name of the original stadium built in 1940.

Our architects took their design inspiration from the stadium’s original 1940s-era Art Deco architecture by using architectural precast concrete colonnade, traditional brick facades, and exposed structural steel. Loeb offers seating for 2,600 guests, including 1,910 chair-backed seats in the lower bowl. Additional seats are available via three suites, and lawn seating is available along the third baseline and behind the left field wall. The municipally owned stadium is the home of the Prospect League’s Lafayette Aviators and the Lafayette Jefferson High School baseball teams. The city envisions the stadium will host   multiple events year-round such as soccer and football games, concerts, movie nights, and more. We are honored to have been a part of a project that will provide many hours of recreation and entertainment to Lafayette residents and visitors for generations to come.

Eight American Structurepoint staffers attended the dedication, and Senior Architect Dan McCloskey during the dedication ceremonies.

Modern Healthcare.com and the Times of News published articles about the event and quoted Rob about the need for installing negative-pressure areas in hospitals and modular headwall rails in patient rooms.

Schoeck says he was excited to share tips and tactics that he and his team developed shortly after the pandemic began in March 2020. “Getting the word out provides solutions that facilities can use to provide the best patient care and staff safety,” Rob said.

The Tampa design center participated in an afternoon of volunteering at the Bay Pines Veterans Affairs (VA) Healthcare Center on March 26. Bay Pines VA Healthcare serves more than 108,000 veterans in the Tampa Bay area providing medical, psychiatric, and extended care services. The volunteer team – consisting of 11 American Structurepoint staff members plus one spouse – assembled 13 bicycles for use by veterans (and repaired an additional three bikes) and filled 1,600 hand-out bags of supplies (water bottle, calendar, mask, and a letter for each veteran) to be distributed at a vaccination event. They also cleaned up the shoreline on the VA property. The volunteer service team at the VA was extremely appreciative of the labor that our staff provided. Beautiful weather graced a rewarding day of service!
