On May 16, Anitra Lewis (Accounting) represented American Structurepoint as a sponsor for DREAM Alive’s Community Day 2013, empowering 100 students and community members to make a positive impact on Indianapolis for hunger relief and awareness through a 30-hour fast. Teams of corporate, nonprofit, and urban youth communities united to raise money for Gleaners Food Bank. Participants celebrated the culmination of the event at the Indianapolis Colts Pavilion with a catered meal by Jonathan Byrd’s to break the fast.
As a volunteer, Lewis and one of DREAM Alive’s Youth Staff members worked with ten scholars to stock the Food Pantry shelves at Gleaners Food Bank. “That consisted of us opening lots of boxes of food and toiletries that were donated and placing them into bins so shelves could be restocked,” Lewis says. “We actually saw the people that were receiving the food items come in to do their shopping. The scholars were amazed by the long line of people that came to receive food. The impact of seeing people who are in need hit them hard. It was an amazing afternoon, and I am so thankful that American Structurepoint allowed me to be a part of this!”
