Construction Inspector Jason Greene’s middle name might as well be “Mr. Community Service.” That’s because he recently added Martin County reserve sheriff’s deputy to his resume to go along his 6.5 years of service to the Loogootee Volunteer Fire Department where he is a lieutenant. To be sworn in as a reserve officer, Jason had to pass a pre-basic training class and complete 100 hours of ride time with deputies and 40 hours of service as a jailer or dispatcher. He typically patrols with another deputy on weekends as he has more training to do before patrolling alone. Jason is the first member of his family to become a reserve officer, although his cousin is the chief deputy with the Martin County Sheriff’s Department. “I love being a reserve because, like the fire department, it’s a way to help out the community,” Jason says. “I also love the events that the sheriff’s office puts on for our community – active shooter training, ladies shooting classes, and a Jeep and Bike Ride event.”
