Lawrence Township Schools recently presented their take for a fire station design on the IMS grounds at the Ninth Annual ACE Mentoring Awards Banquet in Indianapolis.  American Structurepoint hosted a table at this resoundingly successful event as well as provided seven mentors to the Lawrence team for the past school year.  The Lawrence team, comprised of 10 students, presented their design in front of approximately 300 students, relatives, and members of the design community on May 13 at the Marriott East Hotel.  This year’s project consisted of a fire station located somewhere on IMS grounds that included apparatus bays, crew accommodations, and community areas including a fire department museum.  The student led team developed a design for the fire station along with site development and construction management.  Architecture students produced computer rendered building plans, elevations and perspectives while engineering students produced site plans, structural plans, construction staging plans, project schedules and construction estimates.  Three Lawrence students received ACE scholarships in the total amount of $7,500 to study A/C/E fields in college.  The Indianapolis affiliate provided almost $50,000 in student scholarships this year to current and previous students, continuing a strong run of scholarship offerings.  A former American Structurepoint alum, Ellie Stanoch, received the National Mentor of the Year Award for her continuing efforts in the ACE program.  On behalf of the Lawrence team captains, Ellie and Vanessa Shumate (Architecture), they would like to take this opportunity to thank American Structurepoint for all of the manpower and financial support that is provided each year.  The time and money spent in this program makes a difference to many lives including students, teachers, families, and the mentors themselves.  Here’s looking to another wonderful project next school year!
