Jordan Hall Building Envelope Assessment, Butler University, Indianapolis, Indiana: Jordan Hall has experienced movement, settlement, and water infiltration issues along the exterior façade of the building, which consists of 6- to 8-inch-deep granite block with limestone accents. American Structurepoint has been selected for consulting services to assess different components of the exterior building envelope to provide recommendations to address avenues of water infiltration, along with deteriorated and unsafe building materials. We will review the original construction drawings for the building and five selected locations of exterior stone veneer to determine the cause(s) of the observed deficiencies. We will prepare a report detailing our findings, recommendations, prioritization for repair or further action with regard to public safety, and an opinion of probable costs to perform any necessary repairs to these five specific locations. This is American Structurepoint’s first project with Butler University, and we hope they become a repeat client.

Lake Erie Products, Frankfort, Indiana: In December of 2012, Fontana American selected American Structurepoint to assist with its facility expansion. As we all know, the deal is not done until the contract is signed. On February 27, 2013, after lengthy “negotiations,” the whole office probably heard Margaret Kantz (Marketing Communications) breathe a tremendous sigh of relief when the signed contract arrived in our office. Fontana America is the US branch of Fontana Group, the world’s largest manufacturer of high-strength bolts and fasteners. They currently operate as LEP Special Fasteners and have two facilities in Frankfort—one for manufacturing and one for warehousing. This project will combine both operations into a single facility. Fontana US chose their 200,000-sft manufacturing facility to expand by over 250,000 sft. The addition will consist of 180,000 sft of manufacturing space, 60,000 sft of warehouse space, and a 23,000-sft, 2-story corporate office. The project is being managed by our Architectural Group and will also involve personnel from the Structural, Civil, and Survey Groups. Steve Hanscom is the project architect for the manufacturing portion, and Dan McCloskey is the project architect for the corporate office. Construction documents are due to bid in the latter part of April, with construction to immediately follow. The design team will be involved with the construction administration efforts for at least another 12 months. Mike Sheek and others deserve a gracious thank you for their efforts in winning this project. It is another tremendous win for our industrial/manufacturing team and bolsters our list of international clients.

Hunters Creek Road, Monroe County, Indiana: American Structurepoint’s Transportation Group was recently selected by Monroe County for the reconstruction of Hunters Creek Road. This is a somewhat unique project in that it is in the middle of the Hoosier National Forest. The project consists of approximately four miles of complete roadway reconstruction, including widening of the roadway to two lanes plus shoulders. The terrain within the project limits will bring some unique challenges to the design of the roadway geometrics. Being that the project is located in a ridge that traverses through the forest, designing a project that minimizes impacts will also be a significant challenge. The design is on a fast track schedule as the County continues to look for additional funding to purchase land and construct the project. The project design will be led by Patrick Wooden, with support from staff in the Indianapolis office. The estimated construction cost is $4,250,000, with estimated fees at $500,000. This is another great win for our Transportation Group. This project win was the culmination of not only putting together a good proposal, but also because of the trusted relationships we have with Monroe County and the quality work and service we have provided in the past. American Structurepoint was one of several consultants that submitted proposals. The American Structurepoint team was selected based not only on our qualifications, but because of our top-notch proposal that was prepared by our outstanding Marketing Communications staff. Thanks also to Rich Zielinski, Jeff Spicer, Rob Barnes, Cash Canfield, and Greg Henneke for their assistance and hard work in helping to put the proposal together and maintaining strong relationships with the County.

Kercher Road Reconstruction, Goshen, Indiana: This is a significant win in that this is the first true road design project win for our Transportation Group within the city of Goshen. The project consists of one mile of complete roadway reconstruction, including widening of the roadway to three lanes, new storm sewer and drainage improvements, and a new multi-use path throughout the project corridor. The project is on a fast-track schedule, and the City would like to start construction in 2014. The project will be led by Scott Crites in our Fort Wayne office. The estimated construction cost is $2,600,000, with estimated fees at $166,330. This is a great win for our Transportation Group. We were competing against consulting firms that had a much longer history of working with Goshen, so to win this project is the culmination of not only putting together a good proposal, but also of building relationships to become someone the client can trust as a partner. American Structurepoint was one of two consultants that were short-listed. Rich Zielinski, Scott Crites, and Natalie Parks were then interviewed by several members of the City, including the Mayor, city engineer, council members, and staff. Our team was selected based on a top-notch proposal and a great interview. Thanks also to Joe Fragomeni, Mike Koyak, and our Marketing Communications staff for their assistance and hard work in putting together an outstanding proposal.

Condition Assessments, ODOT Outpost Facilities, Ohio: American Structurepoint has been retained for a $68,000 fee by the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (formerly the State Architect) to provide condition assessments of 47 ODOT outpost facilities throughout the state. Each outpost facility contains several structures related to roadway maintenance and snow removal. The purpose of the condition assessments is to provide the OFCC and ODOT with information needed for facility repairs and capital improvements needed over the next ten years. The project includes an accelerated schedule to minimize potential weather-related delays and provide the resulting budgeting information as soon as possible. The project represents a big win for the company, as both the OFCC and ODOT are clients we actively pursue to provide facility services. The project is among the largest projects ever performed by the Columbus Investigative Group.
