Here’s more good economic news from Southern Indiana – the December 1 opening of the first phase of a heavy haul road built to connect the Port of Indiana-Jeffersonville to the River Ridge Commerce Center. Now known as International Drive, the roadway stretches through the commerce center and provides a link to the East End Crossing, SR 265, and SR 62. American Structurepoint was a subconsultant to United Consulting on the project and provided Tom Carrow as an RPR and David Maples as an inspector for most of the 2016 construction season. The project, then known as River Ridge Heavy Haul 1A, began in October 2015 and carried a construction cost of $6 million. It consisted of new terrain road construction with over 100,000 cys of earthwork a large single-span bridge, 4 MSE walls, and extensive landscaping. International Drive will bring traffic from the East End Crossing area to River Ridge’s “Gateway” development that will serve as the main entrance to the commerce center. The commerce center is located on land formerly known as the Indiana Army Ammunition Plant that manufactured gunpowder during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.
