American Structurepoint’s Terre Haute office hosted its second annual day of service this month. Brian Payne was joined by Ben Harvey and former American Structurepoint employee Josh Price. The three of them constructed mountain bike trails on what will eventually be a 20+ mile trail network in Terre Haute’s Griffin Bike Park. The trails are just one part of the public Vigo County Park that will also feature a terrain park, dirt jumps, pump tracks, a dual slalom course, and a lake jump when the park celebrates its grand opening this October 15 and 16 (details here).
The park is named in honor of Sgt. Dale R. Griffin, who grew up in Terre Haute and was an active member of the community. Dale became a Sergeant in the US Army and gave his life on October 27, 2009, while serving in Operation Enduring Freedom, in Afghanistan.
This month’s trail building continues a multi-year history of financial and volunteer support from American Structurepoint. The company’s Community Service Committee has made donations for the park’s first purchase of trail building tools and for the design and construction of a memorial to honor all of the Vigo County veterans who have been killed in combat. The previous company‑sponsored Day of Service removed invasive vines, bushes, and trees to clear the way for the future veterans’ memorial. American Structurepoint has also provided access to GPS units for mapping the park’s extensive trail system.
