The 2015 Mid America Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (MAASTO) annual meeting was held on August 11 where they announced seven award-winning Midwestern state DOT projects. Winning projects fell under three categories: Best Use of Innovation, Under Budget, and Quality of Life/Community Development. The Ohio Department of Transportation’s I-71 widening corridor project won in the Under Budget Category for being completed more than $10 million under budget and three years early. American Structurepoint teamed with Kokosing Construction Company as the design engineer for the northern 7.3 miles of this ODOT District 6 project. Reconstruction of the highway and expanding each lane reduced travel times between Columbus and Cleveland for both passengers and freight. The America’s Transportation Awards hold four regional competitions followed by a national competition where two winners will be named in September at the AASHTO Annual meeting in Chicago, Illinois.
