The Dean and Barbara White Community Center that we designed for the City of Merrillville opened to the public on Monday, March 1. Tours were offered from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and programming began the next day! We also provided civil engineering, structural engineering, and landscape architecture services for the new $24 million, 84,000-sft facility. The center features these amenities:
- 3 basketball courts
- 6 volleyball courts
- Running track
- Rock climbing wall
- Fitness area
- Teen room
- Outdoor multi-purpose sports field
- Landscaped patio area
- Merrillville Parks and Recreation Department’s administrative offices
Because of COVID, the city hosted this soft opening. A bigger celebration is planned for May or June.
