Cline Avenue Bridge Opens in East Chicago

East Chicago’s Cline Avenue Bridge project celebrated a major milestone December 23 – a COVID-safe ribbon cutting and first drive for charity marking the bridge’s opening. American Structurepoint provided engineering for the approaches to the 1.2-mile-long new concrete bridge rising 100 feet about the Indiana Harbor and Ship Canal. The toll bridge provides the quickest connection between Chicago and Northwest Indiana. Ribbon-cutting participants stayed in their cars and drove across the bridge. More than 100 participants were encouraged to donate $20 upon registering for the event, with proceeds benefitting the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana and the Lake County Area United Way. Vice President Chris Murphy, Business Development Director John Kennedy, Project Development Director Eric Wolverton, and Project Manager Greg Lorig all took a spin in their vehicles on the first drive.
