Next Phase of Buffington Harbor Access Road Underway

Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson speaks at the Buffington Harbor groundbreaking ceremony.

Construction is well underway on the next phase of the Buffington Harbor Access Road project in Gary. The project adds two new lanes, one in each direction, to a 1.3-mile long portion of the access road and includes the construction of a single-lane roundabout near SR 912 (Cline Avenue). American Structurepoint road and bridge engineers have designed all four phases of the Buffington Harbor Access Road expansion that first began in 1999. This phase will improve traffic flow and safety for motorists and industrial trucks traveling to Carmeuse Lime & Stone and other lakefront businesses. Construction should be completed by mid-November.
