Michigan City Breaks Ground on New Police Headquarters

Hard hats on, shovels in hand, and the construction finally began. Wednesday, June 10, Mayor Ron Meer with Police Chief Mark Swistek hosted the ‘shovels to the ground’ groundbreaking ceremony in Michigan City, Indiana to begin work on the new Law Enforcement and Municipal Campus.

The old police station was an outdated facility that was not up to par for the Michigan City Police Department. It was decided to relocate the police station to Eastport, near the Blue Chip Casino and residential traffic. This new police headquarters will make it easier to serve the community. The contemporary yet modest design is public friendly, yet safe enough for the officers. A centralized courtyard was implemented to provide views of green space while utilizing a fence for security. We can’t wait to see the building completed!
