Asia Doss Joins in Random Acts of Kindness Week

Staff Engineer Asia Doss, AKA a former star guard for The Ohio State University’s women’s basketball team, joined with a Columbus TV station to celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Week for young basketball players. Columbus TV station WBNS planned a surprise event for young girls at the Linden Community Center, and Asia was more than happy to play a big role in the surprise. Asia spoke to the girls about the importance of kindness, how to use sports to propel them forward, and the power of believing in yourself. “Basketball has taught me a lot and taken me to a lot of places! The best thing it’s taught me is personal skills, communication, the power of being there for someone, and most importantly, the power of helping people,” says Asia.  The TV station supplied pizza and gave the girls tickets to an upcoming OSU women’s basketball game. Way to go, Asia!

Michigan City Courthouse Celebrates Renovation, Expansion

Michigan City Courthouse Rendering

LaPorte County officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony in early January marking the completion of a $20.3 million renovation/expansion project at the historic LaPorte County Courthouse in Michigan City. We provided architectural, interior design, landscape architecture, civil engineering, and structural engineering services for the project. The existing courthouse, built in 1909, was entirely gutted and renovated, creating a new working environment for many county offices. New insulation and mechanical systems were added, as were two new courtrooms; prosecutor’s offices; and county offices for the health department, auditor, assessor, clerk-treasurer, and juvenile probation department. Our team redesigned the basement for long-term storage and added a new dedicated IT department/protected server room.

The 40,000-sft addition added a new secure main lobby; office space for the county prosecutor and adult probation departments; two new courtrooms; an ancillary office with a secure holding area for inmates with a sheriff control space; and covered, secured parking for the judges and sheriff staff. The entire complex is designed to be ADA accessible and secure for all visitors.

Merrillville break area

Here’s celebrating our newest design center in Merrillville, Indiana. The new design center has 4,300 sft of finished space and 1,700 sft of unfinished space to accommodate future growth. The new location offers employees lots of natural light and is set up similar to the Indianapolis design center. The additional space is coming in handy; Merrillville now has 22 full-time design and construction solutions staff working there. Because the construction season has slowed during winter, Team Leader Eric Wolverton reports there are occasions when all 22 staffers are working in the design center at the same time! We can’t wait to see continued growth at our Merrillville design center. Please make note of the address:

Comments Off on IT Provides 2021 Virtual Workspace Stats

IT Provides 2021 Virtual Workspace Stats

Our virtual workspace platform has been in use since 2015. It was one of the technology backbones for us while we all worked remotely due to the coronavirus in 2020. In 2021, the telecommuting policy went into effect, and many of you used the virtual workspace on a more consistent basis.

As we enter into year eight of the platform, IT Solutions is sharing 2021 data illustrating the platform’s use.

Here are definitions of the info in the graphic.

  • Daily virtual computers are the number of virtual computer PCs active per day.
  • Unique users refer to the number of different (unique) users on the virtual platform.
  • User sessions refers to the number of sessions opened.

Almost 30% of staff are consistently working virtually. For the design centers outside of Indianapolis and Columbus, the virtual workspace is their work platform. These virtual sessions range from one minute to several hours; the average session length for 2021 was around four hours. IT has found that the more committed staff are to using the virtual workspace, the more comfortable they become.

The virtual workspace continues to deliver a reliable working platform for all of our design centers and staff. Most importantly, it allows us to provide worksharing opportunities across design centers while maintaining consistency with our servers, files/folders, software, and design standards.

The IT Group is fully vested in ensuring you have the best experience possible and thanks each of you who used the virtual workspace throughout 2021.

If you want to learn more about the virtual workspace, watch for sessions and calendar invites in the Upcoming Live Events section of the Tuesday training emails sent by Mike Steffy, IT Solutions.
