Community Service News

The Community Service fund received $6,085 in December 2020 from employee payroll contributions and American Structurepoint’s dollar-for-dollar match. The Holiday Mania event raised $19,080, and the company also matched that total, adding $38,160 to the fund!

Recent Donations

It was a busy month of fulfilling requests! Staff members around the country delivered gifts to nursing homes and children’s organizations. We also made donations to a variety of organizations in the communities where we have design centers.

Volunteer shoppers contributed a car full of gifts for residents of Springmill Meadows in Indianapolis.

  • Crawford Manor in Boone County, Indiana received $500 to offset costs of a special holiday meal for their low-income and elderly residents. Julie Kost (Marketing Services – Indianapolis) suggested the donation.
  • Metropolitan Ministries of Tampa was sent $1,000 toward holiday gifts for families in need. Members of our Tampa design center also volunteered time at the organization, sorting donations in preparation for distribution. (Please see the article appearing elsewhere in the newsletter)
  • A family at Perry-Worth Elementary School in Lebanon, Indiana received food and holiday gifts for their children. Marietta Yeoman-Griffith (Utility Infrastructure – Indianapolis) coordinated with the school’s social worker to assist the family.
  • Hocking Hills Inspire Shelter is a 14-bed homeless shelter in Logan, Ohio which has increased its hours of operation during the COVID-19 pandemic. A donation of $1,500 was sent to the shelter, which was put forward by Fonda Welker (Road – Columbus).
  • Alzheimer’s Texas received a $1,500 donation to provide family and caregiver support services in Texas, at the suggestion of Adam Pfeiffer (Road – Austin).
  • Small gifts were provided to elderly residents of Neighborcare of Chapel Hill in Indianapolis, as suggested by Anitra Lewis (Accounting – Indianapolis).
  • A donation of $1,500 was sent to the national Wounded Warrior Project organization which supports American military veterans and their families.
  • Habitat for Humanity of Greater Indianapolis received a $3,500 donation, suggested by Kaitlyn Currie (Utility Infrastructure – Indianapolis). We missed volunteering with them in 2020; we look forward to doing another panel build soon!
  • Brigid’s Path in Kettering, Ohio provides support for infants and mothers impacted by addiction. A donation of $500 was sent to them, as suggested by Adam Dahlfors (Bridge – Columbus).
  • Wheeler Mission operates multiple shelters and residential shelters in Indianapolis, providing emergency shelter, residential programming, addiction recovery, and work enterprise. At the suggestion of Miles Demerly (Road – Indianapolis), we made a $2,500 donation to the shelter.
  • GiGi’s Playhouse Indianapolis provides support and programming to individuals with Down syndrome and their families. We made a donation of $2,000 at the suggestion of Joe Dubyel (Construction Solutions – Indianapolis).
  • Churches in Mission is a Martinsville, Indiana-based organization that provides food, clothing, and financial assistance to those in need. A $250 contribution occurred at the suggestion of Julie Kost (Marketing Services – Indianapolis).
  • The Central Ohio Diabetes Association provides support and education to families affected by the disease. We made a $1,000 donation at the suggestion of Adam Dahlfors (Bridge – Columbus).
  • A donation of $1,000 was made to the Blackburn Family who are experiencing financial difficulty due to job loss and medical issues. They were recommended for assistance by Sarah Marchisin (Marketing Services – Indianapolis).
  • Sleep in Heavenly Peace provides beds to children whose homes do not have them. A $2,000 donation was made to the Indianapolis chapter at the suggestion of Jess Pounds (Investigative – Indianapolis).
  • The National Society of Professional Surveyors Foundation provides assistance to surveyors who have experienced a disaster. A contribution of $1,000 occurred at the suggestion of Brian Bingham (Land Surveying – Columbus).
  • A donation of $500 was made to the Skipper Family who are experiencing financial difficulty due to major illness. Patrick Beliveau (Road – Tampa) recommended them for assistance.
  • The Nicholson Family was sent $500 to assist with expenses associated with caring for a child with special needs, at the suggestion of Dale Nicholson (Investigative – Lexington).
  • Fair Haven Rape Crisis Center in Northwest Indiana provides support to those affected by sexual violence and trauma. We donated $500 to the center at the suggestion of Gina Sessions (Road – Highland).
  • Hesed House, a homeless shelter in Aurora, Illinois, received a donation of $750 at the suggestion of our Aurora design center staff.
  • Lafayette Urban Ministries provides financial and advocacy assistance to families in the West Lafayette area. They received a $750 contribution at the suggestion of our Aurora design center staff.
  • The Luttrell Family was sent $500 to assist with expenses during a time of job loss, at the suggestion of Dale Nicholson (Investigative – Lexington).
  • A donation of $1,000 was made to the Shepard Family to assist with medical bills for one of their children. They were recommended for assistance by Don Corson (Structural – Indianapolis).
  • Community Harvest Food Bank in Fort Wayne received a donation of $1,500 at the suggestion of our Fort Wayne design center staff.
  • The Ozanam Family Shelter in Evansville provides temporary shelter while families seek new residences. A donation of $500 was sent at the recommendation of Brian Fox (Construction Solutions – Evansville).
  • Oaks Academy, a private school in Indianapolis, was sent a $500 contribution to be used toward supplies for their new Pre-K classroom, at the recommendation of Sarah Johnson (Accounting – Indianapolis).
  • A donation of $12,000 was made to the Thirst Project. The Thirst Project builds wells in communities in eSwatini and other African countries, providing clean and safe drinking water where it was not previously available.
  • A $5,000 donation was sent to Gleaners Food Bank to purchase healthy food for Hoosiers in need living in central and southeastern Indiana.
  • Children and families in need received clothing and gifts via the Angel Tree Program, coordinated by our Highland design center; Vincent DePaul coordinated by our Columbus design center; and St. Malachi, coordinated by our Cleveland design center.
  • Gift cards totaling $500 were provided to students in need via a program at the Indianapolis Public Schools.
  • Beacon of Hope Crisis Center, an Indianapolis organization assisting victims of domestic violence, received a $500 donation at the suggestion of Anitra Lewis (Accounting – Indianapolis).
  • Meals on Wheels of Central Indiana and LifeCare Alliance in Columbus were each sent a donation of $1,500 to help deliver nutritious meals to homebound seniors.
  • Little Sisters of the Poor St. Augustine Home for the Aged in Indianapolis was sent a $2,000 donation. The center cares for low-income people of advanced age.
  • An American Structurepoint family received assistance with expenses related to the death of a family member.
  • The Mid-Ohio Food Consortium received a $2,500 donation to assist with providing healthy food for Ohioans in need.
  • Ronald McDonald House Charities Central Indiana received toys appropriate for children of all ages and abilities. The donated toys will be selected by parents for each patient and their siblings when the family checks in to the Ronald McDonald House.
  • Love Inc. of Boone County, Indiana was sent $2,000 to assist with their mission of meeting unfilled needs in the community, such as providing housecleaning supplies and linens to families in need.
  • Gift cards were purchased for teenage residents at the Indiana United Methodist Childrens Home to help them celebrate the end-of-year holidays. A total of $2,600 was spent on this project.
  • A donation of $1,500 was sent to the Putnam County EMS toward their goal of installing a Safe Haven Baby Box. The project was suggested by Evan Evans (Survey – Indianapolis).
  • A donation of $500 was sent to the Burns Family, who are experiencing financial hardship. They were suggested for assistance by Mark Tuley (Business Development – Evansville).
  • A donation of $750 was sent to the Nashville Rescue Mission, a facility providing food and shelter to the homeless population of Nashville, Tennessee. They were recommended by staff from our Nashville design center.
  • Our Kids Nashville received a $750 donation. They provide medical evaluations and crisis counseling in response to child sexual abuse. The organization was recommended by staff from our Nashville design center.
  • United Caring Services, an Evansville, Indiana homeless shelter, received a $500 donation at the suggestion of staff from our Evansville design center.
  • Big Heroes Tiny Homes is a school-based program that builds tiny homes for military veterans without housing. $1,500 was sent to their supply fund at the recommendation of Blair Haynie (Road – Austin) and Anna Skelton (Marketing Services – Indianapolis)
  • Matthew 25 Ministries in Cincinnati, a disaster relief organization, received a $1,500 donation at the recommendation of staff from our Cincinnati design center.
  • The Roberts Family was gifted $500 to help with ongoing medical expenses for their child who has sickle cell anemia. They were suggested for assistance by Sharon Payne (Accounting – Indianapolis).

  • You can become a contributor to the Give Back fund by completing a commitment form, available by searching for “Community Service” on Pinnacle.
  • Recipients are all nominated by American Structurepoint employees. If you have a suggestion for an organization that could use assistance, please complete a donation request form, also available via Pinnacle.
