Young Surveyors Socially Distance To Promote Profession

Fort Wayne Project Manager Nolan Mark, coordinator for the Indiana Young Surveyors Network, didn’t let the pandemic stop him from promoting his profession to younger men and women. He organized a social distancing meet-up event that took place August 29 outside at Fort Harrison State Park in Indianapolis. The afternoon included discussion of several surveying topics, lunch, a corn hole tournament, and socializing while wearing masks and standing 6 feet apart. Topics covered the licensing process, ways to prepare for licensing exams, setting goals for the young surveyors group, and possible community service volunteer opportunities for group members. The future of the land surveying profession depends on recruiting younger people; around 20 of the 600+ licensed surveyors in Indiana are under age 35! Nolan was joined at the event by Project Manager Ryan Selby and Survey Crew Chief Aaron Speth.
