Virtual Ribbon Cutting Celebrates First New Building at 16 Tech

How do you host a ribbon-cutting for the opening of the first new building at the $500 million 16 Tech Innovation District in Indianapolis during a pandemic? Host it virtually of course! A virtual ribbon cutting attended by 300 people via Zoom marked the opening of the $30 million Innovation Building 1 for which we provided civil engineering and environmental services. The ceremony also marked the opening of Gent Avenue that we designed as well as provided the design work for underground utilities. Our design extended the roadway that now connects the nearby Riverside neighborhood to the district’s center.

Innovation Building 1 is a 5-story, 120,000-sft facility serving as the headquarters for multiple biotech, technology, and innovation entities. The Indiana Biosciences Research Institute will have three floors of laboratory space. The building also will be home to the Indiana University School of Medicine’s Center for Regenerative Medicine and Engineering, and the new headquarters of the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership, among others. A limited number of dignitaries and Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett spoke in person at the event and then cut a 50-foot long ribbon to mark the district’s formal opening. American Structurepoint is honored to be involved in bringing 16 Tech to life!
