DREAM Alive Scholars Conquer Marshmallow Challenge

Seventeen DREAM Alive scholars from Harshman and John Marshall middle schools visited headquarters on April 5 to learn about the various fields of architecture, engineering, and construction in which we work. The event featured the famed Marshmallow Challenge where teams of students have 18 minutes to build the tallest tower from a kit containing 20 sticks of spaghetti, 1 yard of tape, 1 yard of string, and one marshmallow. The exercise forces people to collaborate quickly and use prototypes to get to the finished product. A team of three girls, coached by Dee Williams, finished in first place with a tower height of over 20 inches. The event also included presentations led by Brandon Hoopingarner and Brandon Farley who engaged several volunteers in discussing their roles in the company. Other volunteers included Daniel Burch, Derrick Day, Antra Henson, Justin Hofman, Hillary Shaffer, Sagar Shah, and Garrett Simpson.
