Community Service Update

Huddle-Up winners
Participants in the pre-Super Bowl “Huddle Up” event in the Indianapolis office had the opportunity to earn or purchase chances in a squares game. The winner for each quarter could designate a charitable organization to receive funds from the GiveBack program. All our winners showed remarkable restraint and decorum, and no rioting was reported, even among those who had never before won any prizes in their American Structurepoint tenure. They also made some fantastic choices in recipients for their charitable gifts:

Quarter 1: Hillary Shaffer donated $200 to Sheltering Wings, a shelter for domestic violence survivors in Plainfield.

Quarter 2: Tom Carrow donated $200 to Mahoning Valley Christian Service Camp in Rushville, a ministry that provides summer youth camps and year-round retreats.

Quarter 3: Anna Skelton donated $200 to Gleaners Food Bank, which helps feed food-insecure families in 21 central and southeastern Indiana counties.

Quarter 4: Sarah Alexander donated the $400 grand prize to the Dementia Society of America, which provides education and quality-of-life programs to help those suffering from dementia-related conditions, along with their caregivers and communities.

Austin Day of Service

The Austin office held its first official Day of Service on February 2 at the Central Texas Food Bank. The group volunteered in the kitchen that makes nutritious cooked meals for the children’s after-school program and other meal programs. Tasks included preparing the mobile pantry storage units for delivery, preparing canned pineapples for meals, working in the freezer to stuff meal containers with spaghetti and broccoli, sealing the meal containers, and handling the trash, composting, and recycling for the kitchen. Thanks to the Austin team’s efforts, 450 meals were provided for those less fortunate in the community.

Housewarming gift for Habitat for Humanity recipient

New Habitat for Humanity homeowner Tammy Taylor recently received a dining room table and chairs as a housewarming gift from American Structurepoint. This the home for which many Indianapolis employees helped build wall frames during our July 2017 Panel Build in the 7260 parking lot. Tammy was especially happy to receive the kitchen table as she has never owned one before now. Tammy, her 19-year-old son and 8-year-old niece are enjoying their new home located on Kenwood Avenue near the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis.

Indy Day of Service – Save the Date!
The Indianapolis office will once again be performing a panel build for Habitat for Humanity in our 7260 parking lot. Mark your calendars for Thursday, July 26, and get ready to pound it! Just like last year, we’ll leave the finished frame up during the chili cookoff the following day, so you’ll have a chance to show it off to your clients.

February donations
In addition to the $1,000 donated to various charities as a result of the Huddle Up event, $500 was donated to the Central Texas Food Bank in honor of the Austin office’s Day of Service on February 2. And because February is Heart Month, two donations were made to organizations supporting children with heart impairments.

  • We donated $500 to Mended Little Hearts for Bravery Bags that are given to children getting heart surgery/procedures at both Riley and Peyton Manning’s Children’s Hospitals. The bags contain a stuffed animal lion, a courageous heart token, an adult coloring book, colored pencils, a reusable cup, a pack of tissues, playing cards, a journal, a pen, and wristbands.
  • We donated $900 to Camp Odayin in Minnesota for an overnight week-long camp experience that is specifically designed for children with heart disease.
