Supplies galore for BackPack Attack Drive

Our participation in the 2017 BackPack Attack campaign resulted in approximately $760 worth of school supplies being donated to Indianapolis-area students in need. Indy staff contributed more than $270 in supplies, then volunteers parlayed the $270 company match into an additional $490 worth of supplies (saved $223 via coupons). Nice job, everyone!

 Circles Indy Graduates Send Thanks

Circles INDY, an anti-poverty initiative, was quite grateful for Community Services providing a graduation celebration on June 1 for 13 individuals participating in a 16-week course. The photo above is of an 8.5-inches-wide by 44-inches-long banner the graduates made to thank us for the celebration. Circles INDY provides training and programs to help individuals and families living to poverty to achieve self-sufficiency. The 13 graduates learned new skills to help them make and execute a plan to move themselves out of poverty, with support from the larger Circles community. The graduation celebration, which includes a meal, is a major milestone for them as they put their new skills and knowledge to work in creating a better life for themselves and their families. We provided volunteers for several activities:

  • Shopping for items to fill gift bags for the graduates
  • Assembling gift bags for the graduates
  • Providing side dishes for the celebration
  • Attending the event to heat and serve the meal, and to clean up afterward.

Check out the scanned thank-you note the sent us too.
