How American Structurepoint Bottle Caps Became a Buddy Bench

Just like mighty oaks from little acorns grow, so too does a welcoming “buddy bench” from small bottle caps grow. About 10 employees from Marketing Communications, Accounting, and Administration contributed countless bottle caps to Connie Boaz so that Connie’s grandson, John Hauser, could help his class build a buddy bench. The buddy bench is a simple idea to eliminate loneliness and foster friendship on the playground at Pittsboro Elementary School in Pittsboro, Indiana. When a student feels lonely, he or she will go sit on the bench and be joined by other classmates. It takes about 400 pounds of bottle caps to make one bench, which equates to 10, 55-gallon plastic trash bags. John collected two 30-gallon trash bags himself, thanks to the help of Connie’s co-workers. Next school year, which starts in August, John plans to bring in the most bottle caps for the next buddy bench. So Connie will be seeking more bottle cap contributions very soon!
