Beams Set on I-65 Project in 36 Seconds

Check out this cool video of a beam being set into place in a mere 36 seconds thanks to time-lapse video. Six beams were set at the Hurricane Bridge on I-65 1.4 miles south of Whiteland Road in Johnson County, Indiana. The bridge reconstruction is a component of the design-build added travel lanes project along an 11-mile stretch of I-65 in Johnson County. All beams were set in place in about seven hours. It was quite the operation, complete with lane restrictions and shutting down traffic on each side of the interstate highway for a maximum 20 minutes each time that construction crew members unloaded a beam from a truck, set it in place, attached diaphragms between the beams for stability, and then prepared the truck for departure. American Structurepoint is leading a team of consultants performing construction inspection duties on the $84 million project that will reconstruct existing travel lanes and add a third travel lane to the highway. The project began on July 9, 2015, and the estimated completion date is June 30, 2017.
